Blues Dancing is typically defined by its intimates closed position movements and slower musical tempos. But what are the methods for slowing the movements and partnership to more fully fill the spaces between the beats? The focus of the first class is to define a foundation to Blues Dancing through the techniques of Weight Transfer, Flexible Frame (AKA "gush"), varying degrees of Closed Position connection.

With a more clearly defined foundation to your Blues Dancing, you and your partner are well on your way to creating your own dynamic patterns that can be tailored to fit the mood and musicality of each song. For the second class, we’ll practice and experiment with the techniques from the first class to see how they apply to free form movement and more structured Blues Patterns such as the Grapevine, Lindy Ochés, Balboa, the Box Step and Turns.

Unlike Modern Jive and Lindy Hop, Blues is danced primarily in closed position. In order to bring it all together, we’ll explore ways to incorporate Blues Styling and movement into your Modern Jive and Lindy Hop through: 1) Core muscle isolation exercises to create more "gush", and 2) Well known Modern Jive and Lindy Hop figures that smoothly transition between open and closed positions such as the Swing Out, Side Pass and Sugar Push.
